About Itchak Schwarzbard

Dr. Schwarzbard graduated from Stony Brook University with a bachelor of science in biochemistry. He then attended the Chicago Medical School, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors and received his master of science in pathology. His residency training was completed in orthopedic surgery at Downstate Medical Center - Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Schwarzbard advanced his training by completing a fellowship in surgery of the hand and upper extremity at Tufts University - New England Medical Center and the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He is board-certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). He holds a certificate of added qualification in surgery of the hand and is also a fellow of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). Dr. Schwarzbard has expertise in the latest treatment of all injuries and disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, and arm. He treats a vast array of conditions both surgically and nonoperatively. His broad spectrum of surgical skills include microsurgery; small joint arthroscopy; endoscopic and open carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery; small joint replacement; treatment of complex hand, wrist, and elbow trauma; surgical and nonsurgical treatment for Dupuytren's contracture; tendon repairs and transfers; treatment for sports and ligament injuries as well as many other afflictions affecting the upper extremity. In addition, he is proficient in general orthopedic trauma treatment and medicine. Dr. Schwarzbard's research has been published in several orthopedic journals and his work has been presented at numerous international orthopedic conferences. He is an active member of the AAOS and ASSH and has presented at the annual meetings for both organizations. Dr. Schwarzbard keeps abreast of the ever-changing world of orthopedics and upper extremity surgery in order to provide his patients with the most up-to-date treatments available.
